It's been fun Cheli... You had a hell of a ride...

.... luckily for Hockeytown and our prospects the ride isn't over.

Picture of the Day: Lidstrom

I have decided that I am going to start doing a picture of the day.

Today's picture is not only a shot of a man known as Norris Nick, but is simply known in the Red Wings locker room as "Swede" even if the locker room has developed a high Swedish concentration.

Red Wings Captain Nicklas Lidstrom

Love the look on Malkin's face...

Three Year Olds and Hockey Skates

For those whom do not know I have two daughters that both love hockey. My oldest first word was infact "hockey" and said on the day of the Red Wings 2008 Stanley Cup parade.

All she a has wanted for her birthday are her first pair of hockey skates (yes she says hockey skates not just skates and yes I have shown her pictures of all kinds of skates and she still picks out the hockey skates) and gloves. So this weekend I we will probably be hitting some proshops in the metro Detroit/Flint area.

So now I am looking for places to take her to enroll her in learn to skate programs - and yes I realise they prefer the kids to wear the recrational skates to learn but mommy and daddy have never worn recreational skates and she doesn't want to either (yeah she's as bull headed as I am - I am soooo in trouble).

Summer Heat

So I am sitting here inside on what is actually a decent day out; because the kids feel that it is 'too hot' - clearly they do not remember living in the DC area anymore because the current 64 is a lot nicer than the 100+ with nearly 100% humidity we were getting out there!

Both of my daughters have been flipping though some old Easton Catalogs I had sitting around. Yes - you can nominate me for mother of the year now. My oldest will be three next week and has been asking for not just ice skates but "hockey skates and gloves". Her sister who will be two next week (yes I am not making this up they are one year and four days apart) is also asking for skates.

So I guess I need to start looking up some local skating and eventual hockey programs for my kids...

I am Detroit - "Essay"

Okay this isn't a contest more of a request and we'll see where it goes.

I was thinking last night before I went to bed about how it is nice to be back. I spent time living in the DC area and not to knock it, maybe under different circumstances it would of felt like home.

So I am asking you to send me an essay (nothing formal) about what Detroit means to you, how being in the Detroit area is part of who you are, a poem about the city, etc.

All I ask is that you give me your name First and Last (an initial for your last name is fine) age and City (lots of us call Detroit home but do not live in the city).

Feel free to e-mail your submissions to SinBinChronicles@gmail.com

NHL 2K11 Tour comes into Hockeytown

2K Sports is out promoting their soon to be released NHL 2K11 video game; and have taken cover star Ryan Kesler of the Vancouver Canucks along for the ride.

The NHL 2K11 bus rolled itself into Keslers hometown Detroit (born in Livonia, Michigan) on August 10th and 11th.

Here are some pictures for the August 11th stop at GameStop on Grand River in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

Don't mess with Finland

Who doesn't love the motivational posters? I remember when I first started going to college the school I was going to had them EVERYWHERE. They were in the halls, the offices, heck I think there were even some in the bathrooms. Needless to say - if you need that much motivation I think you need to make some chances in your life.

Back to topic - so these awesome posters have become an Internet sensation with the addition of the demotivational posters and now everything in life gets a poster. My personal favorite:

(Sorry it is so blurry it was taken with my phone that I clearly need a new one).

And Today's poster of the day with a historical significance. Please take a look at the totals at the bottom - yes those numbers are correct:

Whalers Alumni Game

Is it October yet?

Sadly no - but it is August 1st so we are one step closer to the start of the NHL Regular season. It is now August and we haven't seen a live hockey game played since June and Kovalchuk still doesn't have a home. What are we going to do with ourselves?

Well those that are in Plymouth, Michigan area I have a game for you!

This coming Saturday (August 7th) the Plymouth Whalers are having an Alumni Game.

The Whalers are a member of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and play out of the Compuware Arena in Plymouth, Michigan.

Saturday's game will feature cu rent NHL players: James Neal from the Dallas Stars, Jared Boll from the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Justin Peters in net from the Carolina Hurricanes. Along with hometown players like James Wisniewski from the New York Islanders who grew up in Canton, Fraser-native Chad LaRose from the Carolina Hurricanes and David Legwand the Grosse Pointe Woods-native who plays for the Nashville Predators.

Game starts at 4:30 p.m. on August 7th and tickets are $10 and proceeds go to the Hope for Autism Foundation and Autism Compass. Before the game there will be a meet-and-greet with the players that you will need a game ticket to attend.

An added bonus is that ticket stub from the Alumni Game can be redeemed for tickets to the Whalers home opener.

To purchase tickets for the Alumni Game (or the home opener or heck any other game this season) stop by the Compuware Arena Box Office or call (734) 453-8400
